Going Beyond Religion

Published on: 5/21/2023

From the outside looking in, it may seem like that Jesus Christ is a religion.

I use to think the same way.

But in reality, it's deeper than that.

Here are a few things I wish someone told me about Jesus Christ.

1. It’s a personal relationship with God

It being a religion, going to church, reading the bible and everything else is the result of one thing, and one thing only.

What’s that one thing ?

Your relationship with God.

It doesn’t mean those things don’t matter, in fact, it matters a lot.

But all those things are built on this one thing — your relationship with God.

That also means it‘s two way, and not one way.

In fact, this is the first commandant Jesus Christ gave above all else as the “first and greatest commandment”.

2. Built on Jesus Christ

God does indeed love everyone.

However, God is rather picky when it comes to establishing relationships with people.

He doesn’t just start relationships with just anyone.

That relationship needs to be built on a firm foundation.

And this is through our Lord Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, and being resurrected that we are able to be cleansed, and to be forgiven for our past sins.

Through this, now are able to now create that “blank slate” or firm foundation for us to start that relationship.

And everything onwards is built on this firm foundation.

3. This relationship grows over time

With any relationship it grows over time.

Many people refer to this as living to be “Christ-like”.

This is where God starts to work in your life, and transforms you to be more like Christ.

In fact, he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us to do just that, to guide us and to lead us in the right direction.

It’s your journey with God.

And every time you look back, and reflect on it...

You’ll say to yourself, God was with me.
